NYC Guaranteed Entry Giveaway!

I have decided that even though the New York City Triathlon is awesome and I want to race it, I cannot in good conscience pay the entry fee for it, at least not this year while I'm a student and not bringing in any money outside of financial aid.

Fortunately, Korff Enterprises (a great race group - they also dealt with the nightmare logistics for the one and only Ironman NYC) allows people who have gained guaranteed entry to transfer it, completely legally and within the rules (take a tip, New York Road Runners!)

Therefore MY LOSS IS YOUR GAIN!

The race is an Olympic distance tri scheduled for July 14, 2013.

The entry fee is $285 plus fees from Active.com.

Guaranteed entry is open now through November 5, 2012.

DO YOU WANT TO RACE IT????

You can... if you win my giveaway. Be forewarned / disclaimer: this is not a free entry, just guaranteed entry. You still have to pay all of the associated entry fees, get here, find lodging, etc. Korff Enterprises emailed me a code to use on the entry website, and if you win I will email that code to you, for you to use. If for some weirdo reason you win and then can't use it (maybe you get a save the date for your long lost college roommate's wedding the same weekend, you find out that you will be starting a new job in Indonesia, whatever) let me know and I'll try to get it to somebody else - or you just give it away, again, yourself. It'd be a shame to let a guaranteed entry go to waste for such a popular, lottery based race.

Anyway, without further ado:

Between now and next Tuesday, 10/30/12, do the following:

1) Be a follower here.
2) Leave a comment stating that you want to be entered.
3) For extra points, write a haiku about why you want to race the NYC Tri. Hudson River sewage jokes might get you extra consideration, as will anything else that makes me laugh and not think about anatomy / physiology and / or Chinese medicine.

After midnight on Tuesday 10/30 I'll pick a winner, post about it, and let you know in plenty of time to sign up. If you don't have a blogger or Google + account that you use to sign in, you may want to leave your email or some other way for me to contact you if I don't have it already from prior correspondence.

Easy peasy!

Good luck!

  1. Gross water aside
My wife wants us to go there
    She shops while i race

Consider that my comment that I want to be entered. We live in Hamilton, a mere 4 hours away, so transportation would be a snap, and I'm sure we could find a hotel.

  2. Ugh, bad timing, already booked, though that is very pricey for an olympic, WTC 70.3's are cheaper then that

  3. This is a comment - NOT an entry. No way i could come up with that kind of cash by that day. But what a sweet ass give away. Can I consider this a "wishful thinking" entry?? :-p

  4. Ben, I can't figure out how to contact you through your nonexistent profile info! Are you Ben Barry from Becoming Timberman?

BDD - I know, right??? It's a great race and the NYC Government has been jacking up prices for street closures, so I guess people will pay it, but I'm not making any money right now so I can't really justify it. (Even though I really want to do this race).

M - I wish you would win the lottery and take my entry already!

  5. The water's thick and slick
    But 3000 over-achieving NY'ers could give a lick
When the $300 NYC tri goes off nxt summer - what a lift.

Hi Katie, consider this my entry. No idea if this qualifies as a Haiku, but wanted to make fun of the water and cost. I watched this year, and decided I'd like to do it myself. Good luck in school!
